CARE has made significant progress building lasting partnerships, community capacity, and establishing the infrastructure and interventions that are necessary to continue to strengthen and sustain our work.
We are dedicated to building sustainability by identifying, engaging, and supporting local leadership; encouraging civic participation; providing funding for ambitious neighborhood plans; facilitating connections between donors, the city, not-for-profits, and businesses with a common vision of creating a better city in which we live, work, and play. We invite you to invest in New Haven by supporting CARE's work toward sustainable change through combined structural interventions, policy change, advocacy, and community building. Please contact us by submitting the I'd Like To Get Involved! form.
2013-2014 Partnership Developments:
We strengthened our partnerships with many community-based organizations through SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) outreach, based on results from our 2009 survey that one in five adults struggled with food insecurity. This initiative leverages CARE’s objective to increase access to and knowledge of healthy foods.
We were instrumental in creating the New Haven Food Policy Action Plan and will now work toward increasing access to healthful local food, building up the city's food economy and teaching people how to make good nutritional choices.
CARE staff guided the design of the New Haven Public School District’s School Wellness Manual - a reference for staff and parents to guide school activities and policies that promote healthy behaviors and create a healthier school environment.
Staff is very active with formation of the New Haven Chapter of Get Healthy Connecticut whose mission is to eliminate obesity by removing the barriers to healthy eating and physical activity through the inclusive collaboration of key stakeholders in our community.
